Is Covid Seasonal? Dr Norman Swan

There was a great debate when COVID-19 started as to whether or not this would be seasonal like influenza. It was very hard to tell at the beginning because it was such a huge pandemic affecting so many people because none of us were immune to it, it covered up any effects of season.

Seasonal effects probably affect a pandemic like this to maybe an extent of 20% of infections, but the modeling that’s been done overseas, and to some extent, in Australia, has shown that it probably is seasonal and it is worse in late autumn, early winter. Which is why you’ve seen this huge resurgence in Europe and North America at this time.

We could be at risk if it gets into our population around about March or April.
