How to answer patient’s questions about fertility and COVID-19 vaccines

by | What We're Talking About

Anti- vaxxers have been scaring people in their reproductive years that there’s a risk to their fertility.  It’s false and comes from a wrong-headed idea that the vaccines cross react with the placenta because – they say – of similarities to the spike protein on the virus.

There has been lots of research showing no effects on fertility and in fact, plenty of research showing that COVID-19 can be deadly in pregnancy.  So, it’s really important that pregnant women get immunised. An added reason is that if they breastfeed, they’ll also protect their baby.
