Gut health is linked to immunity in a variety of ways, but essentially we’ve got these millions or trillions of organisms in our bowel that happily live there, don’t cause disease and basically help us to live healthily. And one of the things that our gut microbiome does is it trains our immune system. So our immune system actually learns how to operate and recognise friend from foe partly with the assistance from these bugs in our bowel. They keep our immune system active and healthy, fit and lean, and that’s one of the reasons why it’s so important – not the only one but certainly an important one.
