How do you screen for lung cancer?

Screening for lung cancer has been a long and complex story, but we now know that using low dose CT scanning, which is a way of taking pictures of the chest, we can identify people who get lung cancer and reduce their risk of dying from lung cancer. What’s not yet clear is how best to have that programme running community wide. There is an inquiry and it’s very likely that within the next 12 to 18 months there will be a national programme screening for lung cancer, using that technology, in people who have smoked.
