The evidence of this is strongest in children where they’ve done multiple swabs –  pharyngeal swabs (the back of your throat), nose swabs, sputum swabs – and they’ve also in children and others actually done swabs of the rectal swabs or looked at the stool. And in a proportion of people, particularly children, you can actually grow the virus from the stool.

So it’s clear that at least in some people, maybe not all, the virus does infect the bowel, and you can excrete it, which means that additionally you have got to be super careful when you go to the toilet so that you’re not infecting food that you’re ingesting.
