Can The Covid-19 Virus Mutate? Dr Norman Swan

mutate virus

It’s possible that the COVID-19 virus will mutate around the vaccine, not deliberately, but there is mutating all the time, some mutations may be more resistant to the vaccine than others, a bit like antibiotic resistance.

And if that’s the case, we will need to actually have top-up immunisations each year and revise the immunisations so that we can cope with these new variants. What’s good about the new technologies with vaccines, particularly whats known of the Pfizer and the Moderna vaccines, which were called mRNA vaccines, is that they can probably turn around a new variant within six weeks.

So we’re in good shape to be able to cope with any vaccine resistance that occurs.
