Are gyms the weakest link in the spread of COVID-19?

Gyms are not necessarily the weakest link. They’re one of the weaker links in New South Wales. So the weaker links are wherever people gather indoors without wearing masks and for longer periods of time where there’s a lot of expulsion of air from your lungs at high velocity. So that could be shouting, laughing, singing, talking animatedly, or in a gym breathing heavily.

So there have been a few gyms in New South Wales implicated, but public transport is another risky area and healthcare settings such as aged-care facilities and hospitals are high-risk too. So it’s not just gyms, but gyms do feature in the sort of environments where this can spread.
