Should I Make Lifestyle Changes Prior to Starting IVF? Dr. Katrina Rowan

So it’s recommended prior to starting IVF that both the female and male partner stop smoking, don’t use any illicit drugs and minimise the alcohol intake.

Small amounts of caffeine can be had but again, keeping that in a minimum. If a woman is overweight or underweight, it’s recommended that their weight is corrected to be within the normal recommended range before starting IVF.

In terms of exercise, it’s good to have some moderate amount of exercise particularly to help with stress management during the IVF.

But once they’re actually taking the injections and around the egg collection procedure that exercise will actually need to go down to a fairly minimal level as it can increase the risk of complications with the IVF.
