Family Planning Australia broadcast information on family planning options, emergency and hormonal contraception and new developments in reproductive and sexual health to GPs across Australia on Tuesday 20 March.
Host Dr Norman Swan and experts Dr Terri Foran and Dr Edith Weisberg from FPA Health (formerly Family Planning NSW), Dr Diane Rowling from Family Planning Queensland and Dr Jenny Beange, a rural GP from Dubbo, hosted interactive sessions on the rationale for family planning and the need for training, funding and support, emergency contraception, the range of contraceptive options, the difficulties women in rural areas face, and tips and strategies for health professionals.
Dr Foran, Medical Director FPA Health, developed this initiative after recognising the need for increased awareness of contraceptive options by GPs all over Australia.
'GPs provide an excellent service to women throughout Australia and we at FPA Health are keen to ensure that GPs’ knowledge and expertise in this area is current and comprehensive,' said Dr Foran.
Family Planning Australia, as a leader in reproductive and sexual health, provides training for health professionals as well as clinical services to priority groups throughout Australia.
