You may not be as graceful as Ginger Rogers or as stylish as Fred Astaire, but if you don't move it, you'll lose it.
US research has found that older people who hit the dance floor are less likely to develop dementia than older people who either watch from the sidelines, or carry out other physical activities (New England Journal of Medicine 2003; 348: 2508-16).
Cognitive (thinking) activities such as reading, playing board games or playing musical instruments were also associated with a lower risk of developing dementia, even after taking into account confounding factors.
