Fresh facts: Kiwifruit
Kiwifruits are best eaten in autumn and winter months and have been popular in Australia as a snack for years.
Like most fruit, kiwifruits are high in vitamin C and fibre. They’ve also got more potassium than bananas and plenty of zinc.
While you can cook with kiwifruit, they tend to fall apart when heated.
One of the best ways you can enjoy kiwifruit is sliced with some ricotta cheese.
Recipe kiwifruit and ricotta
- Toast 2 slices of wholemeal bread
- 1 kiwifruit
- 50g ricotta
- Spread ricotta onto toasted wholemeal bread.
- Peel, thinly slice and place kiwifruit on top of ricotta toast.
The kiwifruit got its name after New Zealand growers changed it from ‘Chinese Gooseberry’ to promote New Zealand.
