World Suicide Prevention Day calls to public attention one of the world’s largest causes of premature and unnecessary death - suicide. Events and activities are held to raise awareness about suicide and ways we can reduce suicide rates.
In 2011, the theme is 'suicide prevention in a multicultural society'.
Many people who die by suicide have a mental illness such as depression, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, or a drug-related illness. View our animation of the changes in your brain if you have depression and read about suicide warning signs and how to help and suicide in teenagers.
