What is Oral-Eze Dental Emergency are used for
Oral-Eze Dental Emergency is used for the temporary relief of throbbing, persistent toothache due to a cavity until a dentist can been seen.
Oral-Eze Dental Emergency belongs to a group of medicines called local anaesthetics.
This medicine works by making nerves unable to pass messages to the brain thereby relieving pain.
Ask your doctor if you have any questions about why this medicine has been prescribed for you. Your doctor may have prescribed it for another reason.
Oral-Eze Dental Emergency is available from your pharmacist without a doctor’s prescription.
Before you use Oral-Eze Dental Emergency
When you must not use it
Do not use Oral-Eze Dental Emergency if you have an allergy to:
- any medicine containing benzocaine, other caine type anaesthetics or clove oil (eugenol)
- any of the ingredients listed at the end of this leaflet.
Do not use Oral-Eze Dental Emergency if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date printed on the pack or if the packaging is torn or shows signs of tampering. If it has expired or is damaged, return it to your pharmacist for disposal.
If you are not sure whether you should start taking this medicine, talk to your doctor.
Before you start to use it
Tell your doctor if you have allergies to any other medicines, foods, preservatives or dyes.
Tell your doctor or dentist if you have dental infection.
If you have not told your doctor about any of the above, tell him/her before you start using Oral-Eze Dental Emergency.
Prolonged use Oral-Eze Dental Emergency is not recommended.
This medicine is intended for use in cases of toothache only as a temporary expedient until a dentist can be consulted.
Not to be used for a period exceeding 48 hours unless instructed by your doctor or dentist.
If your symptoms persist, consult your doctor or dentist.
Oral Eze Dental Emergency contains alcohol.
Taking other medicines
No interactions with Oral-Eze Dental Emergency have been noted.
How to use Oral-Eze Dental Emergency
Follow all directions given to you by your doctor or pharmacist carefully. They may differ from the information contained in this leaflet.
If you do not understand the instructions on the pack, ask your doctor or pharmacist for help.
How to use it
Rinse the tooth with water to remove any food particles from the cavity. Moisten a small piece of cotton wool with 1 or 2 drops of Oral-eze dental medication and place in cavity for approximately 1 minute.
Avoid touching tissues other than the tooth cavity.
Apply the dose not more than four times daily or as directed by the dentist or physician.
Children 2-12 years of age should be supervised in the use of this product.
For children under 2 years of age, there is no recommended dosage except under the advice of a dentist or physician
If you use too much (overdose)
In case of overdose or accidental ingestion, contact your doctor, pharmacist or Poisons Information Centre immediately.
While you are using Oral-Eze Dental Emergency
Things you must do
If you are about to be started on any new medicine, remind your doctor and pharmacist that you are using Oral-Eze Dental Emergency.
Tell any other doctors and pharmacists who treat you that you are taking this medicine.
If you become pregnant, stop using this medicine and tell your doctor.
Stop using this medicine if pain and discomfort worsen and see your doctor or dentist.
Things you must not do
Do not use on tissues other than the tooth cavity.
Do not get Oral Eze Dental Emergency in your eyes.
Oral-Eze Dental Emergency should not be swallowed.
Do not use Oral-Eze Dental Emergency to treat any other complaints unless your doctor tells you to.
Do not give your medicine to anyone else, even if they have the same condition as you.
Side effects
Tell your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible if you do not feel well while you are using Oral-Eze Dental Emergency. This medicine helps most people with toothache but it may have unwanted side effects in a few people. All medicines can have side effects.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist to answer any questions you may have. Oral-Eze Dental Emergency is generally well tolerated. However, you may experience some irritation.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you notice anything that is making you feel unwell.
Stop use and ask a doctor if:
- swelling, rash or fever develops
- irritation, pain or redness persists or worsens
Seek immediate medical attention or go to hospital if the following occurs:
- breathing difficulty
- sever rash or itching
Other side effects not listed above may also occur in some people.
After using Oral-Eze Dental Emergency
Storage
Keep your Oral-Eze Dental Emergency toothache medicine in the pack until it is time to use the medicine. If you take the medicine out of the pack, it may not keep well.
Keep Oral-Eze Dental Emergency in a cool dry place where the temperature stays below 30°C.
Do not store Oral-Eze Dental Emergency or any other medicine in the bathroom or near a sink.
Do not leave it on a window sill or in the car. Heat and dampness can destroy some medicines.
Keep this medicine away from fire or flame. Avoid smoking during application or use.
Keep it where children cannot reach it. A locked cupboard at least one-and-a-half metres above the ground is a good place to store medicines.
Disposal
If your doctor tells you to stop taking this medicine or the expiry date has passed, ask your pharmacist what to do with any medicine that is left over.

What it looks like
Oral-Eze Dental Emergency is supplied in packs each containing 5ml bottle of toothache medicine with cotton wool applicators and cotton wool balls.
The Oral-Eze Dental Emergency toothache medicine is a yellow coloured liquid.
Ingredients
Oral-Eze Dental Emergency contains benzocaine & clove oil (eugenol) as the active ingredients.
It also contains propylene glycol, ethanol (alcohol) and water
This medicine does not contain lactose, sucrose or gluten.
