Australian authorities are reviewing international data on the potential human health risks posed by timber treated with a preservative containing arsenic.
This follows concerns raised in the US that children may face a slightly increased lifetime risk of developing lung or bladder cancer from using treated playground equipment, which has a characteristic green tinge.
The Australian chemicals watchdog, the National Registration Authority (NRA), has asked the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) to report on the emerging medical concerns about chromated copper arsenate treatment.
