Dress red for Heart Day

26 April 2002

Friday 3 May 2002 is Dress Red for Heart Day. It is a national fundraising day during Heart Week to support the Heart Foundation in its fight against cardiovascular diseases.

In this, the Heart Foundation's 4th annual Dress Red Day, Australians are being encouraged to wear red and buy a sticker to show their support towards the fight against Australia's number one killer.

Cardiovascular diseases claim one life every 10 minutes in Australia — that's more than one in 3 Australians dying of cardiovascular disease.

Heart Foundation Director of Health, Medical and Scientific Affairs Professor Andrew Tonkin says community support of Dress Red for Heart Day is vital in helping the Heart Foundation continue its fight against cardiovascular disease.

'By raising funds through Dress Red for Heart Day, participants are investing in the heart health of their family and friends, both now and in the future. The work of the Heart Foundation has only been possible because of the generous support of the community,' Professor Tonkin said.
