Anyone can be affected by spinal cord injury. The majority of spinal cord injury (SCI) accidents involve young people aged between 17 and 30 years, with 28 per cent of spinal cord injuries occurring in the 15-24 year old age group in 1996/97.
Out of the approximately 300 Australians who acquired a spinal cord injury in 1997, males made up roughly 80 per cent.
